The cocktail dress is rakish but with good manners for Spring / Summer 2011, dressed in sorbet shades, crisp, delicious colours like emerald green, pink, peach, sky blue; the length is short and mischievous and the dresses swirling and bold, thanks to the silk and chiffon ruffles. The pre-soirée panorama seems to abandon those excesses that until recently had made it so appealing, to return with such femininity to a stricter, more composed elegance. Silk, and plenty of fine cotton, featured prominently in the recent Fashion Weeks, but there was also the return of linen, which, coupled with shiny synthetic yarns, becomes a rich and interesting cloth. Other highlights include viscose, presented as fine and ultra fine, with hints of shiny and matte; special metallic threads that transmit luxury and class were also very much in evidence. Whites certainly stand out on the runway, but no less important are the silver and gold, which is widely used to find a solid principle of harmony in the issues of elegance. There is no shortage of twilight colours to complement the palette, black is not a complete black due to light-weight fabrics that are floating off the young girls: the noir proposals of Alexandre Herchcovith, Bensoni and Denis Basso are splendid; the turquoise and orange tulle of Betsey Johnson is great fun and the mini-dress by Peter Som seems to be covered with yellow petals. There is also plenty of splendour in the Evening dress, the dress to celebrate, to shine and bewitch. The evening outfit also rediscovers the bustier, the train and voluminous skirts, but what is noticeable and gives more sensuality and charm to the creations is the lace and transparency, but never in excess. The evening is enhanced by powerful oranges that often come with hues of red, or bright blue, thanks to the fabrics and shimmering silks on the red carpet of Issa London, offering a huge range of gorgeous colours. The generous necklines are abandoned, but the charm and femininity remain. The pale pink dress by Giles is extremely beautiful, an almost ethnic touch in the collection of Matthew Williamson, and always an amazing spectacle offered by Oscar de la Renta with his masterpiece dress. The dress code of the season is a powerful return to Pure Chic at Fashion Week in Paris, where the best examples could be admired: Karl Lagerfeld put together a wonderful show on the Chanel catwalk, parading embroidered, sleeveless cocktail dresses with lovely, tasteful embroidery, bouquets of feathers placed on the shoulders of the black dresses, and an elegant evening dress with transparency and points of light that illuminate the night. The Dior collection is amazing, with its purple and acid green for the aperitif that becomes red, blue and bright yellow to add colour to the night. images: more than 800 pages: 144 format: cm. 24,5 x 33
